Flo Rida

So Turtle and I took a honeymoon slash vacation trip during Christmas.  I can tell you that for what it is worth, spending December in 80-degree weather is something you should all do once in a while.  The original plan was to go to St. Croix.  But of course lollygagging meant we missed the booking deadline and Carambola got booked fast.  Fortunately a carpool buddy of mine suggested Key West.  I did some research and found out that pretty much any of the keys would do just nicely.  I found a nice, small, quiet resort tucked away in Islamorada and away we went.

We had a blast.  We stopped at Boca Raton to see a friend (Boca is one expensive town) before heading south to the keys.  We spent a day in Key West and visited the southernmost tip of the US.  Cool to think that Cuba is just 90 miles away.

We marveled at the free range hens and chicks that wandered around the keys.  The story is that a hurricane destroyed a chicken farm a while back and scattered the hens all over the islands.  Local law gives the chickens protection and freedom to roam around as they please.  It is pretty weird to see them hold up traffic though.

We went hang gliding.  Check that off my bucket list.  I tell you there is nothing like soaring 2,000 feet in the air, through the clouds and being able to see the entire Island.  I hate heights but for some reason, this was sooooo much fun.  The instructor said the girls typical scream, “oh my God!” and have a good time.  Guys just go, “oh shit!” and freak out big time.  Girls rule.

Florida is definitely going to be tradition from now on.
