Wedding Planning Phase One

1 Aug

I just got back from Rochester yesterday after two days of meeting with vendors.  Turtle and I sat down and crunched numbers and finally decided on the number of guests and made some vendor decisions.  I got the venue I wanted, my baker is a talented, the photographer is so professional, and the DJ seems like a party animal.  This wedding will be a blow-out!

I had to make some compromises like ditching top shelf liquor and sticking with house call brands.  The guests will live.  I also promised to find a cheaper wedding dress.  Lemme explain that catch 22.

Last week I went downtown to buy kenakelon hair for my cornrows.  Since I had 30 minutes to spare, I popped into this bridal store I had once purchased a formal attire from.  I only wanted to look around since according to my master project sheet, wedding dress shopping is not to commence until next month.  Well sha, I spied this lovely ivory dress – and of course if it caught my eye, it had to be expensive.  A whopping $1200 – double what I budgeted.  I decided, hey- it is out of my price range so I can try it on for fun.  I tried it on.  And I never want to try on another dress again.  It was georgous!  A fall 2011 Alfred Angelo.  One of the disney collections.  So I promised Turtle I would find something cheaper.  I lied.  My maid of honor and I have decided to put it on layaway and pay it off half now and little by little on the side.  What Turtle does not know won’t hurt him abi?  Besides, when he sees me walking down the aisle, he’ll forget how much I paid for it.

So far so good.  The venue is very beautiful.  We will be using an outdoor pavilion – canopied, with chandeliers and lighting.  I am soooo excited, I can’t wait!

Yes, it is a complete turnaround from the crying, whining bride-to-be of last month.  Wedding planning is so much fun!  (Well, it is fun now that I get to make all the decisions).

Hold on to your keyboards, you will be reading a lot about this.  Just promise not to get tired of it.

So glad to see that you’ve found a dress and you have lots of time to pay for it, which is great! Also, I guess this means you’re getting married in Rochester? This way it’ll be much cheaper for me to make it. I hope you have set aside the “bloggers table”…lol
